24 de julio de 2024This is definitely not worth retail price, and hardly half the value. The controller is hard to use, but they of course were going for the gimmicky looking ring. The biggest problem is there is no reverse. I guess they expected the front of the board to never get caught under an object so you could always turn. Right after getting it set up it was stuck under the refrigerator. Not even 1 minute of messing around and it was no longer a RC motorized toy. I'm glad I caught it on clearance, because it's probably going to be a statue most of the time the kid has it.

27 de noviembre de 2022The Sonic Speed R/C is a zippy toy whose speed and finesse live up to the hedgehog’s signature athleticism. However, the toy’s finicky controls reduce its long-term interest for kids, and its voracious appetite for batteries make it annoying for parents.
The R/C toy looks quite good. It’s a lean, mean Sonic on a sort of skateboard, and it has articulated joints that allow you to make lots of cool poses. The controller itself is shaped like a golden ring collectible item from the video game. It looks neat, though the circular shape makes the device slightly less functional in that it becomes harder to locate the button that you want to press. Sonic definitely GOES. It’s faster than other R/C toys my kids have, and it turns on a dime, making the toy a blue blur.
My kids got a kick out of making Sonic fly around the house. Their interest waned pretty quickly, however. The device has three buttons: go, spin, and “turbo.” The manual claims that the turbo mode makes the wheels light up and increases the device’s speed. It certainly does the former, but I don’t detect any speed increase. The spin button makes the toy turn remarkably quickly. It’s a neat effect, but it is not at all useful for controlling the direction of the device given how fast it spins. In short, the toy can’t be guided in a meaningful way. The fun lies entirely in sending it skittering around the place more or less at random.
I am annoyed that the toy requires eight AA batteries. That seems excessive! Moreover, after an afternoon of playing with the toy, the batteries were already depleted. It may be the case that my kids left the toy and the remote control turned on after they finished playing with it. When they tried to play with it later that evening, the batteries were already spent. Whether the toy ran out of juice in one round of playing or whether my kids neglected to turn everything off, I’m not happy, and I’m unwilling to put eight more batteries into a toy that my kids have already forgotten about.
I think the toy is neat, and I understand that in order to be true to the fundamental characteristics of Sonic, the thing needs to be fast and to spin. However, I wish that the toy offered the user more control and that it required either less power or were rechargeable.

17 de enero de 2023While I will say my child loves this sonic rc toy, it is a bit much as far as batteries are concerned! It literally takes 8 AA batteries! That's a lot of batteries between the sonic thing itself and the ring controller.
But other than the excessive amount of batteries it's a cute little rc toy!
I love the details on sonic also. It gets going pretty good and you can also press q button on the ring controller for a turbo burst.
The rc sonic itself is pretty solid build wise. But the ring controller is a bit on the lighter side. I feel like the plastic would break after a couple accidental drops on the hardfloor or pavement.
Overall nice toy

5 de diciembre de 2022I received a complimentary Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Sonic Speed Remote Control Vehicle for testing purposes. My 3 and 8 year olds love this toy. The remote looks like one of Sonic’s golden rings. It has a forward mode and a button you push for him to spin. There is a button for his wheels to light up blue and works when you push with the forward or spin button. Both the remote and sonic have on/off buttons. When you turn the gold ring remote on a red light will flash constantly on and off. If you turn the switch on Sonic off then back on the red light stops flashing and stays on and then the remote and Sonic are ready for play. It goes pretty fast! Only downside is that Sonic uses 6 AA batteries and the remote needs 2. So a lot of batteries!
